GEA2000: Modern Chinese History and Culture is an important component of General Education in CUHK-SZ, which provides courses to all undergraduate students in the university. Recently, GE courses are facing some challenges. 1) Students are complaining that they need more clear teaching delivery and assessment methods when taking GE courses in humanities and social science. 2) Online teaching and mix-mode teaching are the new challenges for students and teachers, which need more precise guidance as well. 3) As a teaching group, different instructors need to find a way to maintain curriculum consistency, with equally good quality and unified assessment. This research plan will introduce QM Rubric to help solve these problems. An educational NGO Quality Matters develop QM Rubrics in 2003 and then are wildly used by universities all over the world, especially in online and mixed-mode teaching. QM Rubrics provides a series of meanings, such as course-design standards, online workshops, and peer reviews, to help teachers to improve their teaching quality. Fudan University introduced QM Rubrics to China in 2018 and developed FD-QM as a localized standard. This research plan believes that QM Rubrics and FD-QM will facilitate GEA2000 curriculum, in the course designing, assignment assessment, and field-work teaching. With QM Rubrics and FD-QM, GEA2000 will deliver a better-designed curriculum for students, have clearer assessment rubrics, and help teachers keep providing a course with consistently good quality.
